David Crilly

Dave joined MOTHERSHIP at the end of 2009, just as the band was getting on its feet. Although he's played in various bands for over 30 years he only returned to the North West a few years ago, having spent 20 years in Cambridge working as a Music lecturer (where most of his time was spent playing classical guitar and conducting operas rather than being a rock god!!)

Dave was brought up on the music of Zeppelin and finally got to see them at Earl's Court in May 1975 - at the ripe age of 15, so the opportunity to finally play this music (nearly 40 years later!) with such a fine group of musicians is a joy. As well as the obvious influence of Jimmy Page, Dave is influenced by Richie Blackmore, Robben Ford and Jeff Baxter.

For most gigs he uses a 2008 Gibson Les Paul standard, together with the iconic cherry red SG twin-neck. For acoustic work he plays a natural finish Gibson J200. For slide work (particularly 'In My Time of Dying' and 'When the Levee Breaks') he uses a vintage Gretsch White Falcon driven through Fender amplification.
